Prior to the USEFULL partnership, Mount Holyoke College was using single-use packaging as the only takeout option. On average, takeout dining used about 950 compostable containers per day. In other words, students disposed of an average of 250,800 compostable containers each year – a quantity that was a concern for both the school and the environment. One-year impact: *26,580 pounds of trash (the same as about 92 couches!) *296,200 gallons of water (the same as 18,512 showers!) *33,168 pounds of emissions (the same as driving 37,264 miles!)
